It is with the deep sorrow in my heart I must announce the passing of my teacher, mentor and most of all, dear friend. Kato Sensei passed away peacefully yesterday morning at 9:00, in Tokyo. Kato Sensei was one of the great Masters of Aikido; He began his Aikido training at Hombu Dojo at the age of 19. He was a kind and gentle man; his greatest love was Aikido and his students around the world. Kato Sensei was a lover of nature and hiking, perhaps his favorite thing other than Aikido was the rural Onsens, (natural hot springs) of Japan, eating, drinking and being with his students. Kato Sensei lived life to itŐs fullest, He taught vigorous classes a week before he passed away. I thank him eternally for his love, compassion and selfless teaching. My Japanese father, My Aikido teacher, My dear friend you will forever have a place in my heart and soul.
